Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay Femenina 2026 🇺🇾 (2.2) WE – Stage 2 ITT – Salto Del Penitente – Salto Del Penitente : 11 km
Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay Femenina is a UCI 2.2 multi-stage women’s road race across the varied landscapes of eastern Uruguay, combining coastal plains, rolling countryside and the low mountain ranges of the interior. The route features predominantly paved roads, open agricultural sections and undulating terrain, with short climbs and gradual descents creating frequent changes of rhythm. The surrounding sierras provide the main elevation challenges, with moderate gradients around 4–8% and occasional steeper ramps requiring short accelerations. Narrow rural roads, technical corners and exposed sections make positioning important, while coastal winds, warm temperatures and humidity can influence race conditions. The competition combines road stages with individual time-trial racing, demanding both endurance and sustained power. Breakaways can develop on open roads, while the peloton may split on the climbs before regrouping through valleys and flatter sections. Finishes can produce bunch sprints, reduced-group battles or late attacks, depending on the terrain.
He Saturday October 31, the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay Femenina will reach one of the most unique stages of its first edition. He Penitent’s Leap, in the heart of the mountain landscape of Lavalleja, it will be the scene of one 7.4 kilometer individual time trial, a completely different day in which each cyclist must face the route alone and where every second can be decisive for the general classification.
The test will start from the area of Parador del Salto del Penitente and it will be developed along a route immersed in the mountains, crossing roads with a marked rural character and sectors where curves, countercurves and continuous changes of pace will require precision, power and concentration. In a short-distance time trial, any small error can make a significant difference when stopping the stopwatch.
Throughout the route, the runners will pass through characteristic points of the area such as Olivares de Alejandro, the Penitent Station and the Monument of the Cross, before facing the last sector towards Salto del Penitente Park. The route combines fast sectors with more technical areas, including curves and descents that will force you to find the balance between speed and control.
The natural setting will be another of the main protagonists of the day. Hills, rock formations, water courses and mountain vegetation make up one of the most recognizable landscapes in Lavalleja. Salto del Penitente is one of the main nature destinations in the department and represents one of the most characteristic expressions of the Uruguayan mountain relief.
The arrival will be located next to the Salto del Penitente Park, closing a day in which there will be no peloton, collective strategies or wheel to follow: only each runner, her bicycle and the stopwatch. Due to its characteristics and the short distance of the test, the stage can become one of the decisive moments of the Vuelta before facing the final day.
