Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay Femenina 2026 🇺🇾 (2.2) WE – Stage 1 – Maldonado – Minas : 81 km
Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay Femenina is a UCI 2.2 multi-stage women’s road race across the varied landscapes of eastern Uruguay, combining coastal plains, rolling countryside and the low mountain ranges of the interior. The route features predominantly paved roads, open agricultural sections and undulating terrain, with short climbs and gradual descents creating frequent changes of rhythm. The surrounding sierras provide the main elevation challenges, with moderate gradients around 4–8% and occasional steeper ramps requiring short accelerations. Narrow rural roads, technical corners and exposed sections make positioning important, while coastal winds, warm temperatures and humidity can influence race conditions. The competition combines road stages with individual time-trial racing, demanding both endurance and sustained power. Breakaways can develop on open roads, while the peloton may split on the climbs before regrouping through valleys and flatter sections. Finishes can produce bunch sprints, reduced-group battles or late attacks, depending on the terrain.
The first online day of the Women’s Cycling Tour of Uruguay it will be disputed on Friday, October 30, linking Maldonado with Minas through a route that will take the platoon from the coast to the heart of the mountain landscape in the east of the country.
After leaving the city of Maldonado, the race will advance towards the environment of Saint Charles, one of the cities with the greatest tradition in the department, to later take the Route 9 and begin to enter increasingly undulating terrain. From there, the tour will continue along the Route 12, one of the most characteristic panoramic corridors of the region, surrounded by fields, small water courses, natural mountains and the first mountain formations that anticipate the arrival in Lavalleja.
One of the highlights of the day will be the passage through the surroundings of Eden Town, a town with a strong rural identity that has become a reference for nature tourism and local production in Maldonado. Vineyards, olive groves, rural establishments and gastronomic proposals are part of a landscape where the mountains begin to dominate the horizon.
As the race approaches Lavalleja, the terrain will show one of the main characteristics of this stage: the continuous unevenness. The long undulations of the route and the two CIMA awards they will turn the road to Minas into the first major mountain challenge of this edition, also offering one of the most attractive natural settings in the competition.
Arrival will be in Mines, capital of Lavalleja and city closely linked to the Uruguayan mountain landscape. Surrounded by hills and mountains, it will be the end point of the first online stage and, at the same time, the gateway to an area that will continue to be the protagonist the next day with the individual time trial in it Penitent’s Leap.
From Maldonado to Minas. From the coast to the mountains. The first great challenge of the Vuelta.
