4th Tour de Pologne Women 2026 🇵🇱 (2.Pro) WE – Stage 2 – Włodawa – Lubartów : 117,8 km
Tour de Pologne Women is a UCI 2.Pro classification stage race that unfolds across the diverse and often demanding landscapes of southern and central Poland, where the roads traverse rolling hills, expansive plains, and the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. The terrain varies significantly between stages, ranging from flat, fast stretches on wide, well-paved roads to challenging climbs with gradients of 6–10% on narrower, winding ascents that test both endurance and technical skill. The climbs are often irregular, featuring steep ramps, exposed sections, and technical descents, while the flatter stages offer opportunities for high-speed racing, particularly in the open plains where crosswinds can split the peloton into echelons. The race dynamics are shaped by the contrast between the sprinter-friendly stages and the more selective, hilly parcours, where attacks frequently launch on the steepest sections or during the technical descents. The peloton often remains intact on the flatter stages, setting the scene for high-speed bunch sprints, but the hillier stages fracture the field, favoring climbers and all-rounders who can exploit the terrain. The wind plays a significant role, especially on the exposed plains and open roads, where crosswinds can create splits and add an extra layer of tactical complexity. The finish styles vary—some stages conclude in fast, flat sprints on wide boulevards, while others feature uphill finishes or technical run-ins that reward late breaks or well-timed attacks. The Tour de Pologne Women is a race of versatility, where the ever-changing terrain and weather conditions create a dynamic and unpredictable test for riders.
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) made it back-to-back victories at the Tour de Pologne Women, scorching to the line in Lubartów on stage 2 to extend her overall race lead on Saturday.
After suffering a late mechanical and changing bikes in the last 10km, Irish champion Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) chased back on and finished second, responding well to Wiebes’ initial surge, but ultimately being unable to match her in the sprint. Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) was third on the day.
The final run to the line was hectic, with the last breakaway attacker, Katherine Sarkisov (Team USA), being caught back with 8.8km to go, and several teams trying to disrupt SD Worx-Protime’s dominance.
Lidl-Trek, Fenix-Premier Tech and Picnic PostNL were among them, but with 700 metres to go, the Dutch team emerged back at the front, giving Wiebes enough chance to find a sprinting lane and take the victory.
Wiebes leads the race overall by 18 seconds from Gillespie and 19 from Balsamo, and with just one more flat stage to Lublin remaining, a hat-trick of wins and the GC title looks like the likely outcome from three days of racing in Poland.
