MTB – DHI – World Cup 2026 – 1 – MJ – YongPyong, South Korea 🇰🇷
MTB Downhill (DHI) World Cup is a UCI World Cup classification that transforms rugged mountain slopes into a high-stakes arena of speed, skill, and sheer courage, where riders hurtle downwards at breakneck velocities along a meticulously designed course that tests every facet of their technique. The terrain is a relentless succession of natural and man-made obstacles—root-laden chutes, jagged rock gardens, gaping jumps, and near-vertical drops—all linked by narrow singletrack that demands split-second decision-making. The course begins with a steep, technical start gate, where riders launch into the abyss, their bikes lurching over roots and rocks as they fight for control in the opening seconds, the clock ticking mercilessly. The descents are fast and unforgiving, with sections that require precise body positioning to maintain speed, while others force riders to brake hard, their tires skimming over loose scree or slick mud as they navigate tight switchbacks and sudden compressions. Jumps and drops, some spanning several meters, punish hesitation, rewarding those who commit fully to the line, while the rock gardens and root sections demand a delicate balance of aggression and finesse. The race unfolds in a blur of dust and adrenaline, each rider taking to the course alone, their time decided by the narrowest of margins—often less than a second separating victory from defeat. The finish arrives at the bottom of the mountain, where the course flattens briefly, the riders crossing the line in a cloud of dust, their legs burning from the effort of absorbing the relentless punishment of the descent. The outcome hinges on a rider’s ability to push the limits of speed and control, where a single mistake can cost precious time, but hesitation costs even more.
