5th Vuelta Bantrab 2026 🇬🇹 (2.2) ME – Stage 2 – San Felipe – San Rafael Pie de la Cuesta : 119,3 km
Vuelta Bantrab is a UCI 2.2 classification that unfolds across the diverse and demanding landscapes of Guatemala, where the roads climb from steamy lowland plains into the cool, mist-shrouded highlands, their surfaces a mix of smooth asphalt and rough, weather-beaten stretches that test both endurance and bike-handling skills. The terrain is a relentless succession of long, grinding ascents and technical descents, with climbs that stretch for kilometers, their gradients often exceeding 8% as they wind through coffee plantations, pine forests, and indigenous villages perched on steep hillsides. The ascents are punctuated by short, punchy ramps that force riders to dig deep, while the descents are fast and treacherous, their surfaces slick with rain or loose gravel, demanding constant focus as the roads twist through hairpin bends and narrow passes. Between the climbs, the route flattens briefly, but the roads remain exposed, the wind cutting across the open plateaus, turning the race into a battle of positioning and tactics. The race typically begins with a cautious rhythm, the peloton conserving energy for the challenges ahead, but as the kilometers pass, the attacks grow more frequent, the climbs acting as natural filters that thin the group to the strongest. The finish often arrives after a final, leg-sapping ascent to a high-altitude town or a fast descent into a valley, where a reduced bunch sprints for victory, or a lone rider who has escaped the chaos holds off the chasing pack by a handful of seconds, the mist clinging to the mountains as the race reaches its dramatic conclusion.
