Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha 2026 🇪🇸 (NE) WE – Stage 1 – Sigüenza – Cifuentes : 77 km

Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha WE is a stage race run across open plains, rolling roads, and occasional rising terrain in central Spain. The course can feature long straight sections, exposed highways, and narrower final kilometers where wind and positioning become important, while the climbing is usually more measured than in the high mountains. Riders face a mix of physical and tactical demands, with heat, crosswinds, and steady tempo shaping the peloton’s behavior across each stage. Breakaways can gain traction on transitional roads, but organized teams often keep the race controlled, especially when the profile points toward a sprint or a reduced finish. Typical stages may include gentle ascents, short punchy rises, and circuit-like finales that ask for alert riding and quick reactions. The finishing style often depends on how much the field is stretched in the final hour, ranging from group sprints to late attacks after hard pacing. It is a race that rewards patience, road sense, and efficient teamwork.

The opening day of the Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha LEADER in the province of Guadalajara raised Olympia Norrid-Mortensen (Eulen Amenabar) in Cifuentes, winner and first leader after leading the entrance to the finish line and raising his arms ahead of Leyre Almena (Cantabria Deporte) and Tamara Seijas (Farto Kiroot).

The province of Guadalajara hosted the first stage of the Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha Leader, a competition that started rolling in Sigüenza with the presentation of the 15 participating women’s teams. Subsequently, the protocol was carried out to cut the ribbon with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, Julián Martínez Lizán; the president of the Provincial Council of Guadalajara, José Luis Vega; the general director of rural development, José Juan Fernández; the general director of the women’s institute, Teresa López-Tomé; the mayor of Sigüenza, María Jesús Merino; the president of RECAMDER, Jesús Ortega; the president of the Cycling Federation of Castilla-La Mancha, Vicente Alumbreros; and the director of organization of the Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha Leader, Paco Cerezo; together to the rest of the authorities.

77 kilometers with hardness and three scoring climbs on the menu ensured a great show for the Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha Leader with the women’s peloton, on the way to Beteta. From the starting flag, the attacks and the high speed followed to dispute the mountain passes and also the first flying goal in Alcolea del Pinar, which Yelizaveta Sklyrakova took; or the second in Saelices de la Sal,

Despite the constant attempts to attack, no cut opened differences. The fight for the classification of the mountain had in Sauca a hat-trick of the Eneicat BeCall but the ascent called to decide the winner of that jersey was that of Saelices, which Maite Urteaga (Eulen Amenabar) took and where she started just after crowning the also cyclist of the Gipuzkoa team Olympia Norrid-Mortensen, without achieving an advantage.

Within the last 25 kilometers, after the last mountain pass, Urteaga and Norrid Mortensen (Eulen Amenabar), Almena y Acosta (Cantabria Deporte), Susnik and Sklyarova (ODL Team) as well as Seijas (Farto Kiroot) stood out, who due to lack of understanding reunited with a first chasing group to form a race head of 15 cyclists. In the descent within the final kilometer, Norrid-Mortensen anticipated to enter Cifuentes with a few meters and win ahead of Almena and Seijas, with a time of 2 hours 1 minute 17 seconds at an average speed of 37’3 kilometers per hour.

At the podium ceremony with the presentation of the awards, held in Cifuentes, were the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, Julián Martínez Lizán; the general director of Rural Development, José Juan Fernández; the general director of the women’s Institute, Teresa López-Tomé; the mayor of Cifuentes, Marco Campos; the deputy minister of local administration of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, Eusebio Robles; the representative of Torreznos Tendilla, Jorge Muñoz; the president of the GDR Molina de Aragón, Jesús Alba; the secretary of the GDR FADETA, Helena Cabellos; the president of RECAMDER, Jesús Ortega; the president of the Cycling Federation of Castilla-La Mancha, Vicente Alumbreros; and the organizing director of the Vuelta a Castilla-La Mancha Leader, Paco Cerezo.

The winner of the first stage and leader of the general classification Olympia Norrid-Mortensen (Eulen Amenabar) went up to receive the trophies, who wears the white jersey sponsored by Campo and Alma; the leader of the mountain classification Maite Urteaga (Eulen Amenabar) with the blue jersey of Tendilla; the leader of the flying goals Yelizaveta Sklyarova with the crimson red jersey of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha; the best under-23, the winner of the stage Norrid-Mortensen with the pink jersey sponsored by RECAMDER and also the points classification with the yellow jersey sponsored by Loriente; and the best Castilian-La Mancha Adriana Alguacil (Tenerife BikePoint La Sede) with the Globalcaja green jersey.
