Tour de Kyushu 2026 🇯🇵 (2.1) ME – Stage 1 – Karatsu – Fukuoka : 152 km
Tour de Kyushu is a UCI 2.1 multi-stage road race across Japan’s Kyushu region, combining coastal roads, rural valleys, rolling countryside and mountainous inland terrain. The route typically includes several stages of roughly 100–150 km, with flatter days alternating with more demanding stages through the island’s highlands. Paved coastal sections favor speed and positioning, while mountain roads bring sustained climbs, often around 5–8%, with steeper ramps above 10%, followed by technical descents. Narrow roads, frequent bends and changes in gradient demand careful bike handling and energy management. Warm, humid conditions and intermittent rain can affect grip and increase fatigue, while exposed coastal roads may bring crosswinds. Breakaways can form early on flatter terrain, but the peloton often increases pressure approaching key climbs. The field may split on ascents before regrouping on descents or valley roads. Stage finishes can favor bunch sprints, reduced groups or solo attacks, depending on the terrain and accumulated fatigue.
