71st Ronde van Overijssel 2026 🇳🇱 (1.2) ME – Rijssen – Rijssen : 180,6 km
Ronde van Overijssel is a UCI 1.2 classification that unfolds across the quiet, windswept landscapes of the eastern Netherlands, where the roads trace a path through a patchwork of flat farmland, tidy villages, and expansive polders, their surfaces smooth and fast but deceptively demanding. The terrain is predominantly flat, yet the race is far from a straightforward affair—narrow, winding roads, sudden changes in direction, and the ever-present wind turn the peloton into a restless, shifting entity, its riders constantly jostling for position as they seek shelter from the gusts that sweep across the open plains. The route loops through the province of Overijssel, its roads lined with spectators who stand shoulder-to-shoulder, their cheers carrying across the fields as the race snakes through tight corners and over narrow bridges. The climbs are negligible, but the few short, steep ramps that appear—often bridges or overpasses—serve as natural launchpads for attacks, their gradients sharp enough to split the peloton if the pace is high. The race typically begins at a fast, nervous tempo, the peloton strung out in a long line as riders fight for position at the front, their bikes swaying with every gust of wind. As the kilometers pass, the attacks grow more frequent, small groups slipping away only to be reeled in moments later, the elastic of the race stretching and snapping under the pressure of the chasing pack. The finish often arrives after a fast, technical run-in through the suburbs or countryside, where the roads narrow and the peloton bunches up for a high-speed sprint, the lead-out trains forming in the final kilometers as riders fight for the best wheel. Alternatively, a late breakaway might escape on one of the race’s rare climbs or a wind-exposed section, holding off the peloton by a handful of seconds, the outcome decided in the final, lung-bursting meters.
