120th Il Lombardia 2026 🇮🇹 (1.UWT) ME – Bergamo – Como : 239 km
Il Lombardia is a UCI WorldTour one-day road race through the mountainous terrain of northern Italy, combining long valley roads, demanding climbs and technical descents around lakes and Alpine foothills. The course typically covers more than 200 km, with substantial elevation gain spread across a succession of ascents rather than one continuous mountain climb. Climbs often feature gradients of 5–9%, with steeper ramps above 10% creating repeated accelerations and testing sustained climbing strength. Narrow mountain roads, wooded sections, tight bends and fast descents demand precise bike handling and careful positioning, while changing autumn weather can bring rain, cooler temperatures and slippery surfaces. The race often begins at a controlled pace before breakaways develop across the rolling terrain. As the major climbs accumulate, the peloton gradually fragments, and energy conservation becomes increasingly important. Attacks and counterattacks can reshape the race on the final ascents, while descents offer opportunities to extend gaps. The finish typically favors a solo attack or a small group sprint.
