47th Cholet Agglo Tour 2026 🇫🇷 (1.1) ME – Cholet – Cholet : 197 km
Cholet Agglo Tour is a UCI 1.1 one-day road race through the rolling countryside of western France, combining open farmland, narrow rural lanes, short climbs and a fast urban finale. The course typically covers around 195–205 km and features a succession of modest ascents rather than any sustained mountain climb. Most climbs range between 0.5 and 2.5 km at approximately 3–7%, with occasional sharper ramps around 8–10% creating brief accelerations. Frequent bends, changes in road width and exposed agricultural sections make positioning important, while wind can stretch the peloton and encourage small groups to form. Racing can be active from the opening kilometres as riders fight to establish a breakaway, followed by repeated surges over the rolling terrain. The field may split on the climbs before regrouping on faster roads. A finishing circuit in Cholet adds repeated corners and accelerations. The finale can produce a bunch sprint, reduced-group sprint or late breakaway.
Benefitting from the work of Cofidis teammate Bryan Coquard, Jenthe Biermans outsprinted his breakaway companions to win Cholet Agglo Tour on Saturday.
Coquard initiated the four-rider break with 18 kilometres to go and then buried himself for his teammate. The move also included Matyáš Kopecký (Unibet Rose Rochets) and Axel Huens (Groupama-FDJ United), who would take second and third, respectively, as Coquard celebrated his teammate’s victory crossing the line in fourth place.
“I was feeling really good. I saw that Bryan attacked, he was followed, there was a bit of hesitation and I made the jump. So, we ended up with two of us there, which made the finale easier, though we really had to ride hard because the group was almost catching us,” Biermans said.
“In the final three kilometres, he told me, ‘okay, I’ll sacrifice myself for you, after everything you’ve done for me this year.’ I said, ‘okay, I’ll win this for you.’ The plan was perfect and thanks to the whole team.”
“Bryan is a great teammate and a great leader and what he did today, I will never forget. Thanks to him.”
The pack faced a 197km course in and out of Cholet, as part of the FDJ United Series, formerly known as the Coupe de France. The first 150 kilometres looped around the greater urban area on rolling terrain typical of the roads of Maine-et-Loire before returning to Cholet. Then the riders took on a twisty 8km urban circuit a total of five times.
Early in the race, five riders made it into the break, with Victor Jean (Elite Foundations) collecting top KOM points over the 10 categorised climbs. Behind, Unibet Rose Rockets kept a tight leash on the gap, keeping it at around the 2-minute mark for defending champion Lukáš Kubiš.
The action really started to kick off as the break down to two riders with Léandre Huck (Van Rysel-Roubaix) and Jean, who made their way into the finishing circuit only to be reeled in with 30 kilometres to go.
Around 10 kilometres later, Coquard put in a massive acceleration that was quickly covered by Kopecký, with Biermans and Huens bridging across.
With nine kilometres to go, the quartet held a 19-second advantage over a reshuffling chase group, and managed to stay away.
