83nd Bassano – Monte Grappa 2026 🇮🇹 (1.13) MU23 – Bassano del Grappa – Cima Grappa : 107,9 km
Bassano–Monte Grappa is a UCI 1.13 classification one-day event that unfolds along the grueling and iconic roads of the Veneto region in northeastern Italy, where the parcours climbs relentlessly from the historic town of Bassano del Grappa toward the towering summit of Monte Grappa, one of the most legendary ascents in Italian cycling. The terrain is dominated by the final, brutal climb, a 24-kilometer ascent with an average gradient of 5–6% but featuring ramps that exceed 10% on narrow, winding roads that snake through dense forests and open pastures before reaching the exposed, windswept summit. The lower slopes are deceptively steady, lulling riders into a false sense of security before the gradient kicks upward, testing both physical endurance and mental resilience. The road surface is well-paved but narrow, with sharp hairpins and technical switchbacks that demand precise bike handling.
The race dynamics are shaped almost entirely by the final ascent, where the peloton fractures early into smaller groups as the gradient steepens. Attacks frequently launch on the steepest sections, particularly in the final 10 kilometers, where the road becomes more exposed and the air thinner. The wind plays a significant role on the upper slopes, where crosswinds can split groups and add an extra layer of difficulty. The descent is fast and technical, but the race is almost always decided on the climb itself, with the strongest riders contesting the finish in a reduced sprint or a solo move. Bassano–Monte Grappa is a race of pure climbing prowess, where the relentless gradient and breathtaking scenery of the Veneto Prealps create a formidable and unforgettable challenge.
