Japan Cup Criterium 2026 🇯🇵 (1.CRT) ME – Utsunomiya : 33,8 km
Japan Cup Criterium is an urban road race through the central streets of Utsunomiya, combining wide paved avenues, sharp turns and repeated high-speed passages on a compact circuit. The course typically covers around 34 km over multiple laps of approximately 2.25 km, with very little elevation gain. With no sustained climbs, the main physical demands come from repeated accelerations out of corners, maintaining speed along the straights and recovering quickly between efforts. Tight turns, intersections and barriers make line choice and positioning crucial, while small changes in pace can stretch the peloton and create temporary gaps. Racing is often aggressive from the opening laps, as riders attempt breakaways and teams compete to control the front of the group. The field can split through corners before regrouping on the longer straights, making sustained attacks difficult to maintain. As the finish approaches, teams organize lead-outs and fight for position. The race typically concludes with a high-speed bunch sprint, although a late breakaway can challenge the peloton.
