18th Arno Wallaard Memorial (1.2) ME – Meerkerk – Meerkerk : 190 km
Arno Wallaard Memorial is a UCI 1.2 one-day road race through the flat polder landscape of the Netherlands, covering approximately 190 km around the Alblasserwaard region. The route is almost entirely paved and contains very little elevation change, with roughly 280 metres of total climbing across long, exposed roads, narrow dike lanes and open agricultural sections. Instead of sustained climbs, the main physical challenge comes from maintaining speed over continuous flat terrain and responding to changes in wind direction. Crosswinds can cause the peloton to stretch rapidly, making positioning near the front essential before exposed sections and narrow roads. The race commonly develops through an early breakaway, while groups can split when several teams increase the pace on open roads. Riders must balance sheltering in the bunch with staying alert to sudden accelerations and gaps. The closing kilometres include repeated finishing laps of around 6.5 km, increasing the importance of positioning and timing. The finish is generally suited to a fast sprint, although a small breakaway can contest the line.
