Gran Premio Primavera Ontur – Diputación de Albacete 2026 🇪🇸 (1.2) ME – Ontur – Ontur : 167,8 km
The Gran Premio Primavera de Ontur is a long-standing road cycling race held in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain, serving as a prestigious fixture for elite and under-23 competitors. It has traditionally been a key event within the national road cup series, known for its challenging conditions that often involve strong crosswinds across the plateau. The course typically features several laps through the host municipality and its surroundings, incorporating a mix of fast, flat sections and strategic climbs that test the tactical awareness of the peloton. While the elevation gain is not as extreme as in mountainous regions, the combination of high speeds and exposed roads frequently leads to significant splits in the field before the final sprint. The race is celebrated for its deep roots in the local community and its role in identifying the next generation of professional talent in the domestic racing scene.
Axel Van der Tuuk and Iker Mintegi crossed the Ontur finish line hand in hand, reaping a great victory for Euskaltel Euskadi in the first professional edition of the Grand Prix Primavera de Ontur – Diputación de Albacete, which was also the premiere of the Challenge Futura.
A sunny spring day and an ideal temperature, without wind and with the fans of Ontur overturned, launched the Grand Prix Primavera – Diputación de Albacete. After the presentation of the 20 participating teams, the tape cutting protocol was carried out where the mayor of Ontur, Jesús López; the sports deputy of the Albacete Provincial Council, Dani Sancha; the president of the RFEC, José Vicioso; the vice president of the Cycling Federation of Castilla La Mancha, Paco Cerezo; the bridesmaids of the Ontur festivities; and the organizational director Manuel Collado.
At 9:30 a.m. the test started, with a lot of speed and alternatives from the first moments. It was not until the first pass through Ontur at kilometer 32 with the dispute of the Meta Volante “Bar La Paca” that Francesc Bennassar (High Level Gsport) took, when he formed what would ultimately be the decisive cut. 19 cyclists left ahead with Cepa and Pérez (Caja Rural ALEA), Azanza (Kern Pharma), Benito and Gabriele Bessega (Team Polti VisitMalta), Mintegi and Van Der Tuuk (Euskaltel Euskadi), Dunham and Lydic (APS Cycling Team), Nilsson Julien (AVC Aix en Provence), Igual (Movistar Team Academy), Muñoz and Pradas (Spanish Team under-23), Francisco Fernandez Marin (Extremadura Pebetero), Baptista and Diaz (Technosylva Rower Bembibre), Bastida (Telco ON Clima Osés) Sanroma (Cortizo Team), Fajardo (Vigo Rías Baixas) and Zaragoza (Natural Greatness RALI ALE).
The differences were rising above 2 and a half minutes, with the dispute of the special sprint of Fuente Álamo that Darío Díaz took. The main peloton at the entrance to the first stretch of sterrato “Las Huesas” saw how Polti VisitMalta put a strong rhythm seeking to control that escape, although despite the hardness that chained with the Alto de la Galera (3ª), that head cut was maintained. In the final ramps, Iker Pérez managed to impose himself clearly and add those points in the classification to the best climber.
With an identical race situation, the second section of the “Las Lagunas” road was faced from Corral Rubio. There jumped in search of breaking the escape a due with Axel Van der Tuuk and Óscar Nilsson Julien who began to make his way against the doubts of the persecuting group. Only Adrián Benito could join them, at the moment that the difference was going to the minute over the 16 cyclists. Behind, Kern Pharma and Movistar Team Academy also appeared in the peloton to set the rhythm.
On the climb to La Muela (3ª), the French Nillson Julien scored to secure the mountain prize. The race was looking for Fuente Álamo and Ontur with more and more time lost for the main peloton, reaching 3 minutes.
After the dispute of the “Globalcaja” Goal Steering Wheel in the first step by finish line, which Van der Tuuk took, the race began the final circuit. The climb to the steep of the swamp, and the sterrato sections of “Sierra Parda” and “La Cingla” led to new cuts in the chasing group that approached the escapees, with three runners in search of the race head. In that section with a steep slope of “Sierra Parda”, Iker Pérez, Mintegi and Gabriel Baptista jumped. With a lot of effort, they managed to link practically at the finish line, starting the last three laps.
He didn’t let a second pass, who took advantage of the union of the sextet launched solo to form a new race head. He scored in the special sprint of the swamp slope and continued to open a gap above 30 seconds in the initial part of “Sierra Parda”. In a brave move, his partner Van der Tuuk started from behind and released the rivals, taking advantage of the more technical part of the sterrato. He was able to join his teammate and thus place two cyclists from Euskaltel Euskadi leading the race within the last 30 kilometers.
The understanding was maximum, while from behind they left only in search of the leading both the Portuguese Baptista and the French Nilsson Julien. The fight, unequal, was clearly won by the leading who already in the last lap, without sterrato setches, got a memorable double in the streets of Ontur, with Van der Tuuk crossing the finish line in first position. Great result for a Baptist who completed the podium, giving his team Technosylva Rower Bembibre a great result among professionals.
The first three, Axel Van der Tuuk (also as the first leader of the Challenge Futura), Iker Mintegi and Gabriel Baptista, took the podium. Also again to Van der Tuuk as winner of the Globalcaja flying goals; with Óscar Nilsson Julien (AVC Aix en Provence) as winner of the Velilla mountain prize; again Mintegi as winner of the special sprints Ontalba; Manuel Sanroma (Cortizo) as best La Mancha with the award of the Junta Castilla y La Mancha; once again Gabriel Baptista as best young; Adrián Benito as the most combative cyclist with the Amiab award; and Euskaltel Euskadi in full with its director Iñaki Isasi as the best team of the event.
The award ceremony was the mayor of Ontur, Jesús López; the vice president of the Albacete Provincial Council, Fran Valera; the sports deputy of the Albacete Provincial Council, Dani Sancha; the delegate of education, culture and sports of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, Diego Pérez; the president of the RFEC, José Vicioso; the vice president of the Cycling Federation of Castilla La Mancha, Paco Cerezo; Ana López and Joaquín López from Globalcaja; Josefina del Ramo, from Bodegas Pío del Ramo; Toni García and Ginés Navarro de Velilla; Mª Teresa García, from Ontalba; Rosana López, from Amiab; the ladies of honor of the Ontur festivities; and the director of organization Manuel Collado.
