Trofeo Guerrita – Memorial Juan Romero y Diego Sánchez 2026 🇪🇸 (1.12.1) ME – Alcantarilla – Alcantarilla : 167,2 km
The Trofeo Guerrita, officially known as the Trofeo Guerrita – Memorial Juan Romero y Diego Sánchez, is a premier one-day cycling race held annually in the Region of Murcia, Spain. It serves as a cornerstone of the Copa de España Élite y Sub-23, the highest-level national circuit for amateur and developmental riders. Since its inception in 1990, the race has been celebrated for its challenging and diverse route, which typically begins and ends in the town of Alcantarilla and explores the demanding terrain of Sierra Espuña.
The course for the 2026 edition, held today, March 1, spanned 167.2 kilometers and featured a mix of urban circuits and significant mountain passes. Riders faced a series of technical climbs, including the Alto del Cinto, Alto de Espuña, and the legendary Alto de la Perdiz, which was tackled twice during the middle section of the race. This selective profile, combined with the often-windy conditions of the Murcian plains, ensures that only the strongest and most tactically astute riders remain in contention for the final kilometers.
As the second round of the ten-race Copa de España series, the Trofeo Guerrita plays a critical role in shaping the overall standings. It is known for its “incierta” or unpredictable nature, where breakaways formed on the final ascents must hold off a high-speed chase during the flat run back to Alcantarilla. The race remains a vital platform for young athletes aiming to secure professional contracts, offering them a chance to demonstrate their endurance and climbing ability in one of the most respected events on the Spanish amateur calendar.
