Vuelta a San Juan 2026 🇦🇷 (NE) ME – Stage 7 – Santa Lucia – Alto del Colorado : 139,5 km
The traditional and recognized San Juan road cycling race , aimed at male cyclists of the U23 and Elite category, will be attended by renowned local, national and international teams from neighboring countries. The Vuelta a San Juan will have the organization of Pedal Club Olimpia, support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport with the Secretariat of Sports and San Juan Sports Agency, supervision of the San Juan Cycling Federation and the main patronage of the Government of San Juan.
The weather was once again a protagonist in the Vuelta a San Juan, because for this Friday the ascent to El Colorado was expected with great expectation, in what many estimated could begin to define the competition; however, the rains and the rising that arrived consequently, with dragging of material (stones, sediments and other elements on the road) were decisive to postpone the stage and move it to Saturday and dispute the stage to the Late Correa, also changing the morning schedule for the afternoon.
Finally, the concentration point was on General Paz and Aberastain Street, in Plaza de Santa Lucia, leaving at 15:42 by train controlled by General Paz Street, to the east to Colón, to the south to Av. Hipólito Irigoyen, Route 20 to the Monument to Gaucho roundabout and there the official way was given.
The first Special Pass was on Route 20 on July 9 and Rodrigo Illanes (Team Del Valle) was the winner at 7.5 km and the first Meta Sprint was carried out in Diagonal Sarmiento, opposite the Plaza de Caucete, with 22.4 km traveled, leaving first Jacob Decar Zúñiga, from Chile (Stamina Racing), escorted by Lisandro Bravo (Municipality of Chimbas) and third was Leandro Velardez (Municipality of Pocito).
With 42 degrees of temperature on the route, Sebastian Acuña (Active Force) tried to escape alone just completed the first hour of the race and in the ascent zone; with 47 seconds of advantage over the peloton he began the ascent in Cuesta de las Vacas and in that sector he stayed with the Special Pass in the sector of Caputo.
Then came the First Goal Mountain (3rd category) on Route 141, with 53.6 km walked that also went to Acuña, followed very closely by the Honduran Fred Matute Baca (HYF Lyro Recovery Sport) and the peloton that had shortened distances neutralized those who marked the road.
The second Mountain Goal (3rd category) on Route 141, in Cuesta de las Vacas, back (63.1 km) had this podium: 1º José Autran Castillo, from Chile (Chile National Team) 3 points; 2º José Ramírez Benegaz, from Costa Rica (HyF Liro Recovery Sport) 2 points; 3º Marcos León Rodríguez (Diberbool) 1 point.
The second Meta Sprint was also in Diagonal Sarmiento, in front of the Plaza de Caucete, back (94.3 km) and was won by Bruno Fernández (Municipality of Rivadavia) 3 points and 3 seconds bonus; second was Julián Barrientos (Municipality of Chimbas) 2 points and 2 seconds and third Gonzalo Romero (Municipality of Santa Lucía / Gremios) 1 point and 1 second.
That group together with Leonardo Rodríguez (Municipality of Chimbas) came to have a minute in their favor regarding the peloton. In the Chacritas the last Special Pass was played that was won by Julián Barrientos.
And the weather, as from very early, put the tail again, this time with a strong south wind that forced the authorities to shorten the stage and finally it was 1-2 for cyclists of the Municipality of Chimbas, leaving the victory Leonardo Rodríguez and centimeters from him his partner Julián Barrientos. The general leader, Tomás Contte, was third.
