Track Cycling – World Championship 2024 – Day 4 – Omnisport Apeldoorn, Netherlands 🇳🇱

In, the UCI Junior Track World Championships are taking place in Apeldoorn. From August 20th till the 24th, Omnisport is the location where riders will race their dreams! This is the place where athletes represent themselves and their country. They will race for the ultimate dream, the World Title. For these young athletes, this marks only the beginning, with a career that will lead them to even bigger podiums. To even bigger dreams.

Double gold, global talent, and a night of dreams in Apeldoorn.

The fourth and penultimate day of the UCI Junior Track World Championships saw two riders capture their second rainbow jersey in Omnisport Apeldoorn.

Matilde Cenci added the kilometre time trial to her earlier team sprint gold.

Taeho Choi completed his sprint domination by adding the individual sprint title to his earlier keirin victory. Earning his place as sprint king of the junior men’s field.

All of it in front of an energetic, sold-out crowd in Apeldoorn, where Race Your Dreams was more than just a slogan – it was a feeling.

Cenci strikes again in the kilometre
Matilde Cenci delivered another gold medal for Italy by winning the kilometre time trial at the start of the evening session. She beat Germany’s Emilia Waterstradt and Belgium’s Zita Gheysens to the podium.

“This title means a lot to me. I want to thank my coach Ivan Quaranta, my team, my family, and especially my brother Gregorio, who’s also my best friend. I haven’t raced the kilometre much, but now I want to do it more. I was fastest in both qualifying and the final. The change from 500m to 1km works in my favour – I’m not super explosive, but I can come back strong in the second half.”

Gold for Down Under and Denmark
In the points race for junior women, Anna Dubier (Australia) was the only rider to gain two laps, making her the logical and deserving world champion. Polina Danshina (Neutral) and Alexandra Fangeat (Canada) joined her on the podium.

In the individual pursuit, Ida Fialla (Denmark) delivered a strong ride to beat Jimenez Palos (USA), who had earlier won the scratch. Bronze went to Magdalena Leis (Germany).

Hobbs and Choi finish strong
Henry Hobbs (GBR) captured gold in the omnium after overtaking Belgium’s Witse Bertels in the final points race. Bertels took silver, and Jacopo Vendramin (Italy) grabbed another podium spot for the ever-consistent Italians.

And the big finale? That came from Taeho Choi, who won the sprint final in two powerful rides against Britain’s Archie Gill. Tomasz Lamaszewski (Poland) claimed bronze.

“This gives me great confidence for the future,” said Choi – who, just a day earlier, was equally thrilled to snap a selfie with Olympic champion Harrie Lavreysen, proud ambassador and namesake of this event.
