The Santikutz Klasika is a one-day cycling race for fans, which is held around Legazpi (Basque Country) in Spain. Created in 1929, it is scored for the Spanish Cycling Cup. Until the 1964 edition, professional cyclists could also participate.
May 1 is reserved for International Workers’ Day and for the Santikutz Klasika. More than 90 years of tradition for amateur cycling, and more than 180 beats per minute for the brave who circulate on the roads of this test. It is the date marked in red on the calendar of all the cyclists of the elite and under-23 peloton, they know very well that they will have to put on the “work jumpsuit” before the arrival of one of the most demanding appointments on the national scene.
The organization of the race maintains the 152.6 km route with start and finish in the town of Legazpi, as well as the one held last year.
To caress the glory in the Gipuzkoa town, the runners will have to face 11 scoring ascents of third category, which will result in a route that offers no respite, especially after exceeding the first 50 km. From then on, it will be a continuous up and down, a legbreaker terrain made for the strongest in the mountain and in which the runners will link ascents and descents until they reach the goal of Legazpi.
Tour with great slopes and without rest. The variations in altitude and the prominence of the ascents will be crucial in the selection for the victory. Leading in a few seconds in the last 5 kilometers can be the coup de grace to reach the finish line in the first position and join the great cast of names that have conquered Legazpi.
