6th Gran Premio Igartza / Igartza Sari Nagusia 2026 🇪🇸 (NE) WE/WU23 – Beasain – Beasain : 73 km
The Gran Premio Igartza, also known as the Igartza Sari Nagusia, is a prominent one-day road cycling race held in the Basque Country of Spain, specifically centered around the town of Beasain. This event has established itself as a vital component of the Spanish women’s cycling calendar, often serving as a key round of the national road cup series. The race is celebrated for its inclusive structure, featuring separate competitions for various age groups including cadetes, juniors, and the elite and under-twenty-three categories, which helps foster developmental talent within the sport.
The course is characterized by its hilly and technical nature, reflecting the rugged geography of the Gipuzkoa province. Riders typically face a circuit-based route that includes several short but demanding climbs with steep gradients that frequently exceed ten percent. These architectural features of the race, combined with narrow country lanes and technical descents, ensure an attritional battle that favors versatile punchers and strong climbers over pure sprinters. The repeated passages through the urban center of Beasain and the surrounding hills create a high-intensity environment where positioning and tactical awareness are paramount for success.
The Spanish Women’s Cup held its second round today in Beasain, where Russian Valeria Valgonen (Toyota Valencia-SAV) has won after beating Maite Urteaga in the finish line. In the junior category, the victory has corresponded to an extraordinary Alejandra Neira, who has entered the finish line alone after breaking the peloton with 30 km to go.
Valeria Valgonen has won the G.P. Igartza de Beasain showing sensational legs in the final stretch. The Gipuzkoa race organized by the Loinaz Cycling Society has once again offered a demanding route in which the ascents to Liernia and Olaberria have again been key.
Aroa Gorostiza and Laura Gómez have been the first protagonists of the race, commanding an escape that Leyre Almena and Ingrid Ruiz were chasing from behind in a second group. Neutralized the escape, the race has finished breaking in Olaberria, where a group of four has been formed with Valeria Valgonen, Maite Urteaga, Ayala Serrano and Raquel Queirós. Urteaga has shown itself as the strongest in the climb, passing Olaberria in first place with a slight advantage that has been squeeped in the Valgonen descent. Both cyclists have understood each other to roll to the finish line, where the Russian has not given Urteaga an option and has won the sprint forcefully. In third position has finished Melanie Dupin, who has given time to a group of ten units. Yelizaveta Sklyarova, fourth in goal, is the new leader of the Spanish Cup after this great result and her second place in Noja.
