Gran Premio Igartza / V Igartza Sari Nagusia 2025 🇪🇸 (NE) WE/WU23 – Beasain – Beasain : 73 km
This Sunday, the 5th Igartza Grand Prix was held in Beasain, the second round of the competition following the one held in Noja at the beginning of March. The victory in the senior category went to German rider Joelle Amelie Messemer, who beat Gipuzkoan cyclist Eukene Larrarte in the sprint, making her the new leader of the competition.
In the top category, the cyclists had to cover a distance of 73 km, with the Lierni (category 3) and Olaberria (category 2) peaks as the main attractions, each of which they climbed three times. Already on the first climb, Larrarte decided to jump out of the pack along with Canyon rider Emily Dixon. The group broke up on the first slopes, and the breakaway riders gradually increased their lead. However, behind them, the peloton reacted, and on the second pass through Lierni, they were absorbed, forming a group of around 40 riders. Despite this, Larrarte from Tolosa wanted to continue showing off her good form in front of her home crowd and tried her luck alongside 18-year-old German rider Joelle Amelie Messemer on the final pass through Lierni. Both riders started Olaberria with a significant lead over the chasing group, but leader Valgonen couldn’t keep up with the pace on the Gipuzkoa slopes. Larrarte and Messemer reached the sprint, with the Canyon rider overtaking the Massi Baix Ter rider, who became the new leader of the competition. Behind them, a group finished 19 seconds behind, led by UPV rider Diana Smirnova, who became the best U23 rider in the Spanish Cup.
