65th Gran Premio San Giuseppe 2026 🇮🇹 (1.12) MU23 – Montecassiano – Montecassiano : 153 km
The Gran Premio San Giuseppe, often celebrated as the “Milano-Sanremo of the Under 23s,” is a prestigious Italian one-day classic held in the medieval village of Montecassiano. The 65th edition of the race took place on March 15, 2026, featuring a slightly modified route of 153 kilometers due to infrastructure work that required the removal of the traditional Sambucheto passage. Despite the shorter distance, the race maintained its reputation for being incredibly nervous and selective, with the technical “eight-shaped” circuit and the final uphill drag to the finish line providing a brutal test for the international field of young riders.
The race concluded with a historic victory for the Swiss rider Melk Zumstein of Velo Club Mendrisio, who secured the win with a narrow but decisive margin. Zumstein managed to distance his rivals in the final kilometers, showcasing the climbing strength necessary to tackle the steep gradients of the Montecassiano finish. The podium was completed by two Italian riders, with Luca Attolini of the MG.K Vis Costruzioni e Ambiente team taking second place and Nicolò Arrighetti finishing third. The event was further elevated by its coincidence with the local patronal feast, drawing large crowds to witness the tactical battles and the high-speed pursuit that defined the afternoon. This win for Zumstein marks a significant breakthrough for the young Swiss talent on the Italian circuit and adds a prestigious name to the race’s historic roll of honor.
