Gran Premio Primavera-Ontur 2025 🇪🇸 (1.12.1) ME – Ontur – Ontur : 181,5 km
The Gran Premio Primavera de Ontur is a Spanish cycling race held in Ontur, in the province of Albacete (Castile-La Mancha). Organized by the Club Ciclista Onturense, it has been part of the calendar of the Spanish amateur cup since 2019.
Sergio Geerlings (Caja Rural – Alea) wins a demanding Gran Premio Primavera de Ontur – Diputación de Albacete, and José María Martín (Extremadura – Pebetero) takes the lead in the Spanish Cup. Both riders were part of a group of thirty cyclists in the final 80 kilometers that ultimately went down in a battle for victory.
Before the start of the race, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Jesús López , mayor of Ontur; Eloy Sánchez , vice president of the regulatory council of the Jumilla Designation of Origin; Francisco Valera , vice president of the Provincial Council of Albacete; and Fulgencio Sánchez , winner of the Ontur Grand Prix Primavera in 1968, who was honored for his career.
As in previous editions, the race got off to a frantic start, with multiple attacks at the front of the pack seeking to create gaps. This tension led to several crashes that split the large group into three separate groups, which merged again a few kilometers later. This dynamic of continuous attacks would continue for much of the race until the decisive moment.
With 80 kilometers to go, Spanish Cup leader César Pérez suffered a puncture, while up ahead, hostilities erupted, taking advantage of a moment of strong winds. The high pace set by the Caja Rural – Alea and Equipo Cortizo riders dynamited the race, and a group of 30 riders, including Martín (Extremadura – Pebetero), Lospitao (Caja Rural – Alea), Crozzolo (Maglia Technosylva), and Rey (Cortizo), cyclists destined to fight for the general classification.
Behind them, the Finisher Team tried unsuccessfully to reduce the lead at the front of the field, which managed to open up a gap of over four minutes before entering the final circuit of “La Caña” . With no time to breathe, Sergio Geerlings (Caja Rural – Alea) and Samuel Flórez (Cortizo), who had already been very active earlier, managed to gain a narrow margin of close to 20 seconds.
The leading duo managed their lead perfectly until the final lap, where doubts mounted behind them, handing the fight for victory to Flórez and Geerlings . Finally, in an intense duel, the Murcian rider took the lead and claimed his second win of the season. The podium was completed by fellow Caja Rural – Alea rider Pablo Lospitao , rounding out a great race for the Navarrese team.
José María Martín (Extremadura – Pebetero) regains the overall lead in the Spanish Cup after losing it at the Aiztondo Klasika . There’s also a change of leader in the U23 category, where Argentine Fabrizio Crozzolo (Maglia – Technosylva) moves into first place, replacing César Pérez (Finisher).
The awards ceremony was attended by Daniel Mora , representative of Gobik; Eloy Sánchez , vice president of the Regulatory Council of the Jumilla Designation of Origin; Ana López , deputy director of the Globalcaja Ontur office; María Teresa García , representative of the Ontalba cooperative; Jose Vicente Cantos , representing the Department of Sports of the Regional Government of Castilla – La Mancha; Jose del Ramo , manager of the Pío del Ramo winery; Jesús López , mayor of the Ontur Town Council; Francisco Valera , Vice President of the Albacete Provincial Council; Manuel Davia , Councilor of the Ontur Town Council; Quique Gutiérrez , Vice President of the Spanish Cycling Federation; Manuel Collado , president of the Onturense Cycling Club; Pascual Orengo , Spanish national team coach for the under-23 category, and the ladies and queen of the 2025 festivities.
